About Tara

Tara Watson-Watkins, former Miss Texas and Top Ten Semi-Finalist to Miss America, is the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Executive Director. The LCVB is responsible for promoting special events, advertising Lufkin’s attributes and attractions and positioning Lufkin as a destination for conventions and meetings.

A dancer and a vocalist, Tara loves entertaining crowds and is truly “at home,” on the stage. She is a 2001 graduate of Texas Christian University with a degree in Speech Language Pathology.  Upon graduation, Tara worked in Dallas and Austin as a pharmaceutical representative with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and Santarus, Inc.

In 2006, Tara returned to her hometown of Lufkin as the Marketing Director for Woodland Heights Medical Center. Her combined experience, hometown pride and love of bringing people together, led Tara to her current position with the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Tara is very active in her community serving on the boards of Hospice in the Pines, Young Life, United Way, as well as serving as the chairman for many Lufkin Chamber of Commerce functions. She is involved in the Junior League of Lufkin, her church where she sings on the Praise Team, and is an HIV/AIDS activist.

When Tara is not volunteering in the community or at home with her husband, attorney Brent Watkins, she lectures and teaches across the state and throughout the country.
